To date, the SCS Fund has sponsored nearly 50 students on specialist summer courses; provided teaching materials for institutions and individuals; and contributed to a study visit to Prague by a group of Scottish students.
Czech and Slovak students can apply to any specialist summer school in Scotland except basic language courses. Most students, however, apply for the Scottish Universities International Summer School (SUISS) based at Edinburgh University, in order to study 20th century British and Irish Literature (see www.suiss.ed.ac.uk).
Applications (in English only) are invited from Undergraduates and Postgraduates with a good command of English, proven academic achievment, and preferably a genuine interest in Scottish culture. Scottish students should be able to demonstrate their connection with their Slavonic counterparts.
Every effort is made to award adequate amounts of money to enable students to participate, but it is expected that students will meet their travel expenses and a small portion of their accommodation or tuition fees themselves.
Awards are made on the basis of genuine financial need and academic merit. The money is payable in Scotland in the form of a contribution to the course.
To apply for an SCS Fund Scholarship, please fill in the SUISS Application Form, an SCSF Scholarship Application Form and send us two letters of reference – one from your college/university (e.g. course supervisor) and one from a personal contact who knows you well (not a relative).
Although we consider applications from all students, preference must be given to those in later years, and those whose applications show exceptional promise.
Please send your application to reach us by 15th April at the latest. If you could please send all application forms to The Secretary, SCS FUND, 68/5 Comely Bank Avenue, Edinburgh, EH4 1HE and The Administrative Manager, SUISS, 21 Buccleuch Place, Edinburgh, EH3 6RT.
